My student Eiko-san invited me to go to Ayukawa with her and her daughters to see the festival they have there. yay! Ayukawa is a really small fishing village, but I like it--it's comfortable. It's more compact than Higashimatsushima is, so it feels bigger, but it's actually smaller. Anyways, I went straight after church (yes, I did go), and when we got there we walked along the row of booths. Kaho and Mako really like this goldfish catching thing! I think they did it like, three times and caught maybe 8 goldfish!! When we took them home to their grandparent's house, they already had a couple tanks full of the fish they had caught in earlier years. Three goldfish were about four years old and HUGE! Like, maybe 6 inches. That's pretty big!
After we got to the grandparent's house, the grandma made dinner, which was sushi and fried veggies and crab and shrimp. The crab was SO GOOD.
Then Kaho and Mako got dressed in their yukata. Awww~~~ So cute! Mom, I have to make some of these so if I have girls they can play dress up! ok? ok! :
The fireworks were beautiful! It was cloudy so a lot of people were kind of complaining, but I thought they were still great. They were RIGHT on the water, and we were really close! It was awesome.
So yeah. yay~ It was a nice night. Good to get out.

Yes! You/I (?) will have to make your little girls yukatas to dress up in! Those little girls are so cute. I'm glad you were able to spend the day with them. What wonderful memories you will have of living in Japan.
59 more days?
Love,
Mom
Now THAT'S a great memory of Japan! Can't beat it! And how boring and colorless most American food is compared to that. You're gonna have to bring us up a notch when you come back home. :-)
Love,
Dad
