The lyrics are pretty powerful, I think..
What I think "Several Ways to Die Trying" says:
The Pacific sun should've warned me about Japan. heh, it wasn't always so great as everyone said it would be.
The roads that people built to lead us to the light are being burned. We were hopeful, but now... We had ambition, were intrigued by it all, and were let down.
We just want someone to take interest. But more often than not, people just don't care. They only care about themselves. Most of the time, what we do just goes forgotten. Life sometimes just feels like a trick. We were only led, just to end up in a coffin they built for us. We only wanted the best for ourselves, to believe we could achieve something, but we were lied to, betrayed. But we are, WE ARE intriguing. We ARE worth something. We know it, why doesn't anyone else?
I'm not saying I believe this, well, not all the time, but I have felt like this on many occasions.
Lyrics:
Pacific Sun, you should have warned us, it gets so cold here.
And the night can freeze, before you set it on fire.
And our flares go unnoticed.
Diminished, faded just as soon as they are fired.
We are, we are, intrigued. We are, we are, invisible.
Oh, how we've shouted, how we've screamed, take notice, take interest, take me with you.
But all our fears fall on deaf ears.
Tonight, they're burning the roads they built to lead us to the light.
And blinding our hearts with their shining lies,
while closing our caskets cold and tight. But I'm dying to live.
Pacific sun, you should have warned us, these heights are dizzying,
and the climb can kill you long before the fall.
And our trails go unmarked and unmapped and covered
just as soon as they are crossed.
We are, we are, intriguing. We are, we are, desirable.
Oh how we've shouted, how we've screamed,
take notice, take interest, take me with you.
But all our fears fall on deaf ears.
Tonight, they're burning the roads they built to lead us to the light.
And blinding our hearts with their shining lies,
while closing our caskets cold and tight. But I'm dying to live.

Hmmm, downer song. I suppose we all feel like this from time to time, but it's usually when we've been temporarily blinded as to the good that's all around us, and the good that we ourselves can do if there isn't any other to be found.
Love,
Dad
